The Forest Hills Central Ranger Hockey Team won their first Regional Championship since 1985 by defeating The East Grand Rapids Pioneers 4 to 2 in front of a capacity crowd at the Patterson Ice Center.

East jumped out to an early lead with a goal in the first period by Jake Morse. The Rangers had tallies from Patrick Lunt and Nico Withey in the second period to pull ahead 2 to 1.

Pioneer Harry Boeschenstein scored a power play goal early in the third period to even up the game.

Ben Scholle, who has scored big goals all year, netted the game winner with just over 3 minutes remaining and Patrick Lunt added an insurance goal with 54 seconds left to seal the victory.

“Our philosophy has been goaltending and defensive zone coverage, Luke Gaudette has played amazing all year and really shut the door making key saves at key moments keeping us in the game tonight. He has really been outstanding all year with his hard work, great character and solid goaltending.” FHC Head Coach Kevin Zaschak said, “the FHC Community, School, Administration and Staff really supported us tonight and it was really appreciated by the team.”

The Rangers will face Flint Powers on Wednesday, March 11 @ 7 PM at the Summit in Lansing.
