Meet Recap

Forest Hills freshman and sophomores stood tall as they took 2nd place in the annual Freshman-Sophomore meet hosted by Grandville on Saturday. “We had some fantastic time improvements as well some excellent racing,” according to coach Dennis Neat. “We also had several races where we’ll have to improve our touching the wall faster, too many races went against us at the wall.”

Although most of those touch outs occurred against other teams, in the 200 yard Individual Medley it was teammates CJ Hier just out touching fellow teammate Adam Sands for the 200 IM title (2:08.50 to 2:08.701). Charlie Krug was .01 from winning the 50 yd. event and Adam Sands was again a victim of the touch out taking 2nd by .34 from winning the 100 yard Buttefly. Forest Hills came within .11 from winning all three relays. “Our 200 medley relay swam great by Rockford was just a bit faster today.” “We did turn it around and won the last two relays,” according to Coach Neat.

In the 200 Medley Relay (Hier, Iwatsu, Sands, Krug) finished 2nd; Tyler Perschbacher personal best time in the 200 yard Freestyle (2:09.73) finishing in 12th place. CJ Hier won the 200 yard. Individual Medley in a personal best time of 2:08.50 while Adam Sands touched 2nd in a season best 2:08.70.

Forest Hills had a strong showing in the 50 yard Freestyle with Charlie Krug touching in 2nd (23.14) and was followed by teammates Kaz Iwatsu, 5th (23.97), Zach Stevenson, 6th (24.76), Daniel Bloedow, 8th (25.12), Max VanDoorne, 9th (25.18) and Nick Porter, 16th (26.98).

The “Hills” divers took 4th, 6th and 8th as Ryan Talbot came through with a personal best score of 290.75 for 4th place, Joe Mish took 6th with a score of 259.00 and Michael Brown finished 8th with a personal best score of 238.90.

In the 100 yd. Butterfly, Adam Sands touched in 2nd slightly off his season best at 57.89 and Kyle Carter finished 11th overall going a personal best time of 1:08.84.

The 100 yd. Freestyle once again displayed Forest Hills team depth as CJ Hier went a personal best time of 54.21 to finish in 4th place and followed by teammates Max VanDoorne, 5th (55.48); Tyler Perschbacher, 7th (55.72) and Nick Porter, 16th (1:01.47).

The only entry for the “Hills” was CJ Paalman in the 500 yd. Freestyle and he finished 11th in a personal best time of 6:45.20.

Forest Hills captured the 200 yd. Freestyle relay in a time of 1:35.55 (Max VanDoorne, Adam Sands, Daniel Bloedow, Charlie Krug) as they were four seconds clear of 2nd place.

In the 100 yd. Backstroke, Zach Stevenson was 4th (1:01.02) and Kaz Iwatsu finished 6th (1:02.36) and Will Clancy touched in 10th place (1:10.34).

The 100 yd. Breaststroke saw Charlie Krug touch in 2nd place (1:06.92) and Daniel Bloedow finished 8th (1:10.75) and Kyle Carter was 16th (1:19.89).

In the final event, the 400 yard Freestyle relay, the “Hills” team of (Hier, Stevenson, Bloedow, Iwatsu) held off Rockford to win the event in a time of 3:34.11.

Coach Neat wrapped up the meet by saying, “I’m excited to see how far our 1st year swimmers and divers have come in just 10 weeks. The improvement that everyone showed here today is because of their efforts they give in practice everyday.” “Our conference meet is just 3 weeks away, there’s still a lot of work to do but this is the group that’s going to have to step up even more if we want to be in the running for a championship title.”
