Meet Recap

The Forest Hills boys swimming and diving team continues to build on their successes. The “Hills” defeated Northview 118-67 keeping the team undefeated through the regular season record, 9-0 and 5-0 in the Conference.

Dennis Neat, Head Coach of Men’s swimming team, said “the team’s victory tonight required contributions from every team member. Their performances should give us a lot of confidence going in our final dual meet next Tuesday vs. EGR and then the conference tournament.”

Congratulations to Charlie Krug in getting a Division 1 state cut leading off the 400 yd. Freestyle relay (48.93) and leading the team with a victory in the 200 yd. Individual Medley. Charlie was also a member of the winning 200 and 400 yd. Freestyle Relays.

After a 2-3 finish in the 200 Medley relay, the “Hills” stormed back with a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 yd. Freestyle. Matt Wilson took the honors (1:48.55) followed by Jonathan Bloedow (1:50.69) and Kaz Iwatsu (1:56.43).

In the 200 yd. Individual Medley, Charlie Krug touched in 1st place, 2:04.09 and was followed by teammate Zach Stevenson, 2nd place, 2:18.89.

Seth Fagen went personal best time of 23.61 for 2nd place in the 50 yd. Freestyle. Adam Sands was 4th (24.36).

The “Hills” divers went 2-4 as Ryan Talbot took 2nd (187.55) and Joe Mish 4th (163.10).

The second half of the meet started strongly for the “Hills” team as they went 1-2-3 in the 100 yd. Butterfly. Dakota Weinman posted the top time of 56.18 with Matt Wilson, 2nd (58.21) Kaz Iwatsu 3rd (59.98).

Junior Jonathan Bloedow captured the 100 yd. Freestyle top spot going 50.29 and team mate Mitch Miller 3rd (54.53) followed by Brandon Lee touching in 4th (55.55).

Seth Fagen lead another 1-2-3 sweep going 5:08.49 in the 500 yd. Freestyle and freshman Daniel Bloedow went season best 5:12.60 for 2nd and fellow freshman C.J. Hier coming in 3rd (5:21.42).

The 200 yd. Freestyle Relay saw a school record turned in by Matt Wilson (22.53), Kaz Iwatsu (22.63), Dakota Weinman (22.22), Charlie Krug (21.78) going 1:29.16 for 1st place.

Senior Isaac VanderMolen came to the wall 1st in the 100 yd. Backstroke (1:01.96) and Adam Sands finished 3rd (1:05.00).

In the 100 yd. Breaststroke, Dakota Weinman touched in a personal best time of 1:03.74 for 2nd place and C.J. Hier finished a challenging double also touching in a personal best time of 1:09.07. Daniel Bloedow went 1:13.33 for 5th place.

In the 400 yd. Freestyle Relay, Charlie Krug lead off with a state qualifying time of 48.93 and he was followed by Jonathan Bloedow (50.10); Matt Wilson (49.25) and Kaz Iwatsu (49.90) as they finished 2nd at 3:18.18. The “B” team of Sands, Stevenson, Hier, VanDoorne came in 3rd at 3:42.98.

Wrapping up the meet, coach Neat said, “while we had several strong performances tonight, we need to understand that our team goals still lie ahead of us. EGR next Tuesday and the conference meet the following week. I can’t wait to see what we can do now that we’re going to get a little rest from our busy schedule.”
